Lisa Mielniczuk, Canada

Dr. Mielniczuk received her medical degree from McMaster University before heading to Queen’s University to complete training in Internal Medicine, and then her cardiology residency at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. She completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation, and a Masters of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics from the Harvard School of Public Health. She worked as an Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant cardiologist at the Ottawa Heart Institute for many years before moving to the Mayo Clinic this past year. She co-founded and developed the Ottawa Heart Institute Pulmonary Hypertension Program, a clinic which now serves over 1000 patients with pulmonary hypertension, and has grown to one of the largest programs in Canada, and she has established herself as a clinician leader and scientist in the field of pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure. Dr. Mielniczuk has been actively involved at multiple National Societies in heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. She has served at the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, has been Vice President of the Canadian Heart Failure Society, and she is outgoing Chair for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada. Dr. Mielniczuk’s area of research interest is predominately in outcomes related to heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, as well as mechanisms of right heart failure, with a particular interest in the use of novel imaging strategies to help understand disease. She has published more than 150 peer reviewed papers, has held numerous grants and awards and has received more than 25 invitations to speak internationally.
